Liberty and opportunities for all
3 February 2010
While many companies pay lip service to the motto that "people are our most important asset", Inter-Active Technologies acts on it – and with great success.
Kurauone Muzhinji (known as Liberty) was employed as a security guard at the Inter-Active Technologies premises in Florida from 2007. "I got to know many of the people, and was keen to find out what they did," he says. "I approached staff members about how I should go about becoming computer literate and Kat Fouche, General Manager, Training and Quality, kindly said that she would organise a computer for the guard room, so that I could start learning."
Liberty began teaching himself how the computer worked, and managed to get help from IT staff members whenever they had spare time. "I spoke to them about improving my knowledge and what I would need to do to join their call centre staff. I was told to submit an application, and that I may be called for an interview."
Liberty submitted his CV and his interview went well. "I was successful and was sent for two months' call centre training. I started on the floor on 11 June 2009," he smiles. "I'm not up to scratch yet, but I'm learning all the time. I have always wanted to challenge myself and this has been amazing. I cannot find the words to show how it has changed my personal life."
Inter-Active Technologies Call Centre Manager, Bevin Sandras explains: "This is a great success story for all of us. We believe strongly in people – they are our success. We believe that if we carry on seeing potential in people and investing in them, we will succeed. Liberty is a shining example to us."
There will be no resting on laurels for Liberty; however: "This company is growing and there will be many opportunities in the future. I am looking forward to new challenges," Liberty concludes.
